HISTORY:
The family is descended from the Bonda family, of
Kashmiri origin.
The Maulvi Abdullah, who was the son of the Maulvi Abdul Kadir, and
was born in Kashmir, came to Bengal in the reign of the Emperor Mahmud
Shah, and established himself in Sylhet. It was the largest zamindari
held by any landholder in Eastern Bengal during
the
colonial period. The successor to the Zamindari was appointed by the
Mutawalli
from amongst family members deemed to be most competent to manage the
family
