PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The
ancestor
of the family was Raja Prithviraj III, the last Hindu ruler of Delhi
1162/1192, some of his
descendants
settled the Jawas estate in Mewar. Estate holders were…

  • Raja JAISINGHDEVJI
    (alias Patai Rawal), last Raja of Champaner and Raja of Pawagadh
    1470/1484, married and
    had issue. He died 1541 Samvat.

    • Raja Raisinghji, married and had issue.
      • Raja Prithvirajsinghj I, his descendants founded Chhota-Udaipur.
      • Kunwar Dungarsinghji I, 1st Raja of Baria.

    • Kunwar Tejsinghji
  • Rao LIMBAJI, Rao of
    Jawas 1484/1498, the estate was established by Rao
    Limba, by defeating the
    aboriginal bhils in 1484; married and had issue, two sons and at least
    one daughter. He died 1498.

    • Kunwar Gang Deo, he was granted the estate of Pahada (27
      villages with revenue of Rs. 15,238) on
      his father’s death; married and had issue. He died 1527 in the battle
      of Khanwa.

    • Maharani Guman Kanwar, married Maharana Ratan Singh on Mewar.
  • Rawat MANAK DEO,
    Rawat of Jawas 1498/1527, he was granted the estate of
    Jawas on his father’s death; married Rani Puran
    Kanwar, a daughter of Thakur Jagat Singh of Dharampuri, and had issue.
    He died 1527 in the battle of Khanwa,
    fighting against Padshah Babar.

  • Rawat SURYA MAL I,
    Rawat of Jawas 1527/1533, married Rani Ratan
    Kanwar, daughter of Chawda Thakur Samant Singh of Umasna, and had
    issue, three sons. He died 1533.

    • Kunwar Deobhan, married Kunwarani Chawri Deo
      Kanwar. He was killed in a battle where his wife committed sati.

  • Rawat RAI MAL,
    Rawat of Jawas 1533/1551, married Rani Badan Kanwar,
    daughter of Rawat Hamir Singh of Begun, and had issue. He died 1551.

    Rawat of Jawas 1551/1584, he took part in the Battle of
    Haldighati in 1576, married Rani Pan Kanwar, and had issue. He died
    1584.

  • Rawat CHANDRA BHAN,
    Rawat of Jawas 1584/1600, married 1stly, Rani Saras
    Kanwar,
    daughter of Solanki Rana Mool Singhji of Lunawada,
    married 2ndly, Rani
    Rai
    Kanwar, daughter of Chundawat Thakur Ram Singh of Kurabar, married Rani
    Deo Kanwar, daughter of
    Solanki Thakur Suraj Singh, and had issue, eight sons. He died 1600.

    • Rawat Jaswant Singh I (by Rani Saras Kanwar) (qv)
    • Kunwar Surya Mal, he was granted the estate of Chhani. In
      1930, Udaipur state, recognized its independence and granted the title
      of Thakur to
      Manohar
      Singh. This estate has a revenue of Rs. 5695.
    • Kunwar Khengar Singh, he was granted the estate of Thana.
      In 1930, Udaipur state, recognized its independence and granted the
      title of Thakur to
      Ranjit Singh. This estate has a revenue of Rs. 5396. Rawat Ratan Singh
      of Jawas was adopted from this branch (see below).
  • Rawat JASWANT SINGH I,
    Rawat of Jawas 1600/1622, married Rani Nawal Kanwar,
    daughter of
    Ranawat Thakur Ummed Singh of Dhariawad, and had issue. He died 1622.

  • Rawat SURYA MAL II,
    Rawat of Jawas 1622/1641, married 1stly, Rani Raj
    Kanwar,
    daughter of Chawda Thakur Kishan Singh of Varsoda, married 2ndly, Rani
    Amar Kanwar, daughter of Sisodia Thakur Dungar
    Singh of Limbdi, married 3rdly, Rani Ram Kanwar, daughter of Solanki
    Thakur Zorawar Singh of Panarwa, and had issue. He died 1641 in a
    battle against the Mughals (two wives committed sati).

    Rawat of Jawas 1641/1684, married Rani Radha Kanwar,
    daughter of Sisodia
    Thakur Akhai Singh of Salamgarh, and had issue. He died 1684.

  • Rawat CHHATRA SINGH,
    Rawat of Jawas 1713/1715, married Rani Jaya Kanwar,
    committed sati 1715. He died 1715.
  • Rawat SAMANT SINGH,
    Rawat of Jawas 1715/1725, married 1stly, Rani Puran
    Kanwar (Sisodia), married 2ndly, Rani Raj Kanwar, daughter of Rana
    Raghunath Singh Solanki of Panarwa, and had issue. He died 1725.

    Rawat of Jawas 1725/1737, married Rani Bhao Kanwar,
    daughter of Shaktawat Thakur Ranmal Singh
    of Bhindar, and had issue, four sons. He died 1737.

  • Rawat UMED SINGH,
    Rawat of Jawas 1738/1739, married Rani Bal Kanwar,
    daughter of
    Solanki Thakur Jasraj, and had adoptive issue. He died sp 1739.
  • Rawat BAKHT SINGH,
    Rawat of Jawas 1739/1761, he was initially granted the
    estate of Bawalwada with his younger brother, succeeded by adoption,
    married and had issue, three sons. He died 1761.

    adoption; married 1stly, Rani Anjan Kanwar, daughter of Solanki Thakur
    Pratap Singh of Panarwa, married 2ndly, Rani Chandan
    Kanwar, daughter of Sarangdevot Thakur Prithi Singh of Madri.

  • Rawat AMAR SINGH,
    Rawat of Jawas 1873/1894, born as Kunwar Amar Singh,
    second son of Thakur Daulat Singh of Banalwara (died 1841), and
    succeeded by adoption; married 1stly, Rani Pratap Kanwar, daughter of
    Solanki Thakur Lal Singh, married 2ndly, Rani Gulab Kanwar, daughter of
    Solanki Thakur Chatar Singh. He died sp 24th February 1894.
  • Rawat RATAN SINGH II,
    Rawat of Jawas 1894/1919, born 1877, as Kunwar Ratan
    Singh, son of Thakur Partab Singh of Thana, a collateral branch of
    Jawas, descended from Thakur Khengar Singh, third son of Rawat Chandra
    Bhan of Jawas, and succeeded by adoption, which was opposed by Rawat
    Laxman Singh of Pahada, a different collateral branch of Jawas; married
    1stly, 1895, Rani Jet Kanwar, daughter of Solanki Rawat Bhawani Singh
    of Panarwa, married 2ndly, 1906, Rani Pratap Kanwar, daughter of
    Solanki Rawat Amar Singh of Ogna, married 3rdly, 1913, Rani Jamna
    Kanwar, daughter of Sarangdevot Thakur Pratap Singh of Madri, married
    4thly, Rani Raj Kanwar, daughter of Thakur Balsinh Gopalsinh of Vana in
    Wadhwan State, and had issue. He died 8th March 1919.

  • Rawat TAKHAT SINGH,
    Rawat of Jawas 1922/1980, born 13th May 1911, as Kunwar
    Takhat Singh, son of Thakur Pane Singh
    of
    Suveri (Khunadri), a collateral branch of Jawas, and succeeded by
    adoption after an interval of three years; educated at Mayo College,
    Ajmer;
    married 1stly, Rani Vijaya Kanwar, daughter of Thakur Shri Jadeja
    Mansinghji,
    Bhayat of Hadmatia in Rajkot, married 2ndly, Rani Jitendra Kanwar,
    daughter of Thakore Shivsinhji of Chuda, and his wife, Thakorani
    Dashrath Kanwar. He died sp 6th August 1980.
