PREDECESSORS AND SHORT
HISTORY:
Founder of the family was Nijabat or Najabat Khan, a
Yusufzai Pathan whose ancestor came from Kandahar, later the Fort at
Kunjpura was built in 1729 and a small state created in the vicinity,
and the position was maintained until the British arrived and took over
the state in 1846, granting jagirs to members of the family, which
owned large estates in Karnal, Muzaffarnagar and Saharanpur districts (#1). Rulers

  • Nawab Najabat Khan, he joined the
    service of Guru Gobind Singh at
    Paonta Sahib, however he deserted the Guru on the eve of the battle of
    Bharigani in
    1688
    and joined hands with the hill Rajas. He died 1688 in battle at
    Bharigani.
  • Nawab Wazir Khan, faujdar of Sirhind under the Mughals, he
    engineered
    the
    murder of Guru Gobind Singh on 7th October 1708, in retaliation he was
    attacked and killed at Chappar Chiri, near present-day Chandigarh, on
    12th
    May 1710.

  • Nawab NAJABAT KHAN,
    1st Nawab of
    Kunjpura 1739/1760, he was recognized as Chief of
    Kunjpura in
    1739, by Nadir
    Shah in recognition of his support; married and had issue.
    He died 1760 in a battle with Marathas.

      1789.

      • Sahibzada Sultan Khan, married and had issue. He died
        1829.

        • Sahibzada Muhammed Nur Khan, married and had issue.

          • Sahibzada Ghulam Ahmad Khan, born 1840, Member of
            the Council of Regency (Gwalior), author of many works in Urdu; married
            and had issue.

            • Sahibzada Sultan Ahmad Khan, born 1866, educated
              at Aligarh University.
            • Sahibzada Aftab Ahmad Khan, born 1868, educated
              at Aligarh University; married and had issue.

              • Sahibzada Shamshad Ahmad Khan, born 1888.
  • Nawab DALER KHAN,
    2nd Nawab of
    Kunjpura 1760/1773, he was granted an extensive
    Jagir by Ahmad Shah
    Abdali, but lost a considerable part of it to Jind State before his
    death in 1773, married and had issue. He died 1773.

    • Nawabzada Karam Sher Khan, he was granted Ghir estate as
      his share; married and had issue.  He died 1844.

      • Sahibzada Ghulam Nabi Khan, married and had issue. He
        died vp 1840.

          Hussain of Ghir, married and had issue, as well as further issue by a
          slave girl. He died in 1851.

        died 1869.

        • Sahibzada Mahomed Hussain Khan, married and had
          issue. He died 1879.

  • Nawab GULSHER KHAN,
    3rd Nawab of
    Kunjpura 1773/1801, he sided with the British
    forces; married and had issue. He died 1801.

    • Nawabzada Ghulam Mahayuddin, he was granted Biana village
      in Jagir and was
      involved in a long drawnout battle with his brother for his share in
      the
      estate; married and had issue. He died 1841.

      • Sahibzada Mahomed Yar Khan of Biana, he continued his
        legal
        battle for possession of his estate; married and had issue. He died
        1882.

        • Sahibzada Ahmad Hasan Khan of Biana, he continued his
          legal battle
          for possession of his estate, married and had issue.

      contest of
      succession for a share in the patrimony, but eventually settled for a

    5th Nawab of
    Kunjpura 1822/1829, he died sp in 1829.
  • Nawab GHULAM ALI KHAN,
    6th Nawab of
    Kunjpura 1829/1849, married and had issue. He
    died 1849.

    the Third
    Council
    of the Lieutenant Governor of
    the Punjab [14.1.1913] – [19.4.1916]; served as an Honourary
    Magistrate; married and had issue. He
    died after 1916.
